The Granery

The Granary is a private art gallery located on a rural estate in Litchfield County. The structure includes two large primary galleries, an art handling area, and large storage room.

The project consists of solid stone volume of the main gallery flanked by two lighter wood boxes clad in stained cedar with several openings to bring in natural light. The secondary spaces act as additional exhibition rooms and can also be used as support spaces. The exterior stone terrace provides ample space for sculpture and outdoor receptions. The building is framed with concrete walls and steel beams. The main gallery is a double-height space bordered by concrete walls enclosing a vast 80 foot by 38-foot open bay without a single column to obstruct views. The roof is framed in steel allowing for three large skylights.
