Blithewood Garden is located on a hillside along the Hudson River on the campus of Bard College. The Garden is over 100 years old. It is an early 20th century walled Italianate garden laid out in a symmetrical, neoclassical fashion consisting of a central pool and pavilion with paths, pergolas, and arbors. Brick walls define the north and south perimeter of the Garden.
Decorative elements such as terra cotta balustrades exist throughout. Murray Engineering was tasked to inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the existing garden elements and infrastructure. The non-destructive and minimally invasive investigation was intended to assess the complete structure and surroundings in order to provide recommendations for remediation.
