Murray Engineering Announces New Ownership and Continued Legacy of Innovation

NEW YORK CITY AND RHINEBECK — Murray Engineering, the New York-based structural engineering firm founded by Robert J. Murray, P.E., has transitioned ownership to Andrea Shear, P.E., and Anthony Piderit, P.E., S.E, experienced leaders within the firm.

Established in 1998, Murray Engineering provides sophisticated structural engineering services to the cultural, institutional, hospitality, residential, and commercial sectors. Licensed in multiple states, this award-winning firm leads projects in new construction, adaptive reuse, forensic investigations, restoration, modular structures, and historic preservation. The firm has developed expertise in modular construction, an increasingly important approach to delivering high-quality, sustainable projects for multi-family residential and commercial projects with greater speed and precision.

“Andrea and Anthony have demonstrated exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to our clients,” said Robert J. Murray. “I am confident they will continue to build on the culture and values that have defined Murray Engineering since its founding.”

Under the new leadership, Murray Engineering will maintain local ownership and continue to bring a practical, common-sense approach to structural design, seamlessly transforming elegant architectural visions into durable, high-performing realities. With a diverse portfolio that spans the complex forensic restoration of aging structures to smart-building methods like Passive House and modular systems, the firm is committed to continuing the tradition of reliable structural engineering services in New York City, the Hudson Valley, and beyond.

“Our vision is to expand on Robert’s foundation while evolving with the industry’s changing needs,” said Andrea Shear. “We are committed to design excellence, collaboration, and practical, creative solutions for our clients.”

Anthony Piderit said, “Partnership is central to our work — with architects, owners, consultants, contractors, and communities. The best structural solutions come from collaboration, clear communication, and shared project vision.”

As Murray Engineering enters its next chapter, the firm remains focused on delivering thoughtful structural solutions while maintaining the collaborative culture and client relationships that have defined the practice for nearly three decades.

With offices in New York City and Rhinebeck, Murray Engineering serves private developers, institutions, building owners, agencies, nonprofits, and artists. The firm provides each project with technical rigor, attention, and personalized service, regardless of size.

About Andrea Shear, P.E.

Andrea Shear, P.E., brings more than two decades of structural engineering experience to her new role leading Murray Engineering. A University of Michigan graduate (BSE ’02, MSE 04) and multi-state licensed engineer who joined the firm in 2024, her extensive technical background spans forensics, restoration, complex renovations, and façade and parking structure inspections. Outside of her firm responsibilities, she is deeply involved in code development, serving on both the New York City Building Code Structural Committee and national NCSEA subcommittees. Andrea also guides the broader profession as the president-elect of SEAoNY, building on her years of service as the organization’s past Secretary, Director, and committee co-chair.

About Anthony Piderit

Stepping into leadership after more than a decade with Murray Engineering, Anthony Piderit, P.E., S.E., brings a deep-rooted passion for practical, common-sense design to his new role. His expertise spans from modern new construction to historic landmarks, a range fueled by his natural curiosity as a local New Yorker about how the city’s buildings were truly put together. When he isn’t guiding Murray’s collaborative team or managing projects, he actively shapes the industry’s future as the current President of SEAoNY and a national code committee member. A proud Manhattan College alumnus (BSE ’13, MSE ’15), Anthony combines high-level technical expertise with a warm, people-first leadership style built for the firm’s exciting next chapter.
