Murray Engineering is a structural engineering firm established in 1998 by Robert J. Murray, P.E.  With offices in New York City and Rhinebeck, it is an efficiently-sized company with broad areas of expertise and flexibility.  We use state-of-the-art technology to help create the best designs for renovating and preserving existing buildings while also taking on the design of new buildings.  Our diverse expertise serve a variety of clients, from private, residential, and commercial owners and developers as well as to NYC Agencies and Non-profit Organizations.

All projects, regardless of size or budget, are approached with the same level of professional care and attention. Robert Murray maintains direct involvement in every project and manages the daily operations of the company. Each project is tended to by a team made up of, at minimum, a Senior / Licensed Engineer, a Project Manager / Engineer and a CAD Operator who work together throughout the course of the project and see to its successful completion. Our goal is to solve complex design problems with efficiency and creativity, and to deliver exceptional services to our clients, professionally and within budget.

ROBERT MURRAY, P.E., FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL

Robert Murray is the Principal Engineer and founder of Murray Engineering.  Robert focuses on projects varying in scope from conventional construction, such as affordable housing, to specialty construction such as modular buildings, special hospital equipment installations and high end residential work.

Born and raised in upstate New York, Robert made the move to the concrete jungle in 1987.  Before founding Murray Engineering, Robert was involved in maintenance and repair projects for some of New York and New Jersey's finest bridges and airports.  He also became extensively involved in steel and concrete modular construction and analysis of tensile structures.  As a special consultant for the Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City, Missouri, Robert was the project manager for the forensic study of a tensile structure collapse at Fort Leonard Wood.

Robert earned his Bachelor's of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is licensed in the state of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Louisiana and Maryland.

WILLIAM ENG, P.E., ASSOCIATE

Mr. William Eng joined Murray Engineering in the Fall of 2004 as a Senior Structural Engineer. Mr. Eng brings with him a wide variety of design experience. He has extensive experience with steel and concrete structures with an expertise in post-tensioned concrete structures. His experience ranges from low to high rise structures, museums, residential, institutional,office and mixed use buildings.

While at Murray Engineering, Mr. Eng is the project manager of several low and mid rise residential buildings in New York City. The construction of the buildings spans all types, including wood, steel, concrete,cold formed metal and block and plank. He has also been involved in many renovation projects of high end residential apartments throughout Manhattan.

Mr. Eng is an active member of the Structural Engineers Association of New York serving as the continuing education chair.

JAMES P, QUINN, P.E., ASSOCIATE

Mr. Quinn joined Murray Engineering in 1998 and continues to work on both modular and conventionally framed structures. Much of his work over the past several years has been focused on multiple-family housing and high end residential construction. He has participated in the design of numerous special buildings for the New York City School Construction Authority and has a great deal of experience with city agencies. Jim enjoys the challenges we face while designing cost-efficient solutions for many residential projects.

As a senior associate and project manager, James Quinn recently completed the design and construction of three new hospital buildings in Lake Charles, Louisiana. These buildings combined provide over 125,000 square feet of space and are the first to be constructed on a new 58-acre site.

DAVID REYNOLDS, P.E.

Dave joined Murray Engineering in 2006, after moving to Brooklyn from Ledyard, Connecticut. His engineering experience has offered him the opportunity to specialize in multiple project types including evaluation and remediation, shoring, sidewalk vault restoration, high-end residential staircases and alterations. He actively participated in the disaster emergency response for the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, as well as Hurricanes Irene and Sandy.

Dave is a proud husband and soon-to-be-father. He enjoys staying active and bicycle commutes daily, rain or shine. He currently ran the New York City Marathon in 3 hours and 10 minutes. He also enjoys rock climbing, skiing, ice hockey, tennis, wood working, and film projects.

JONATHAN FAGERT

Jonathan Fagert, our Pittsburgh native, joined the Murray Engineering team in 2010. He’s a proud alumni of Case Western Reserve University where he received both his undergraduate and graduate degree in Structural Engineering.  Jonathan has designed and detailed multiple steel-framed medical office buildings while also working on commercial and residential renovation projects.    He is an active member of SEAoNY and is currently serving as the Co-Chair of the University Outreach Committee.  He enjoys playing baseball and taking ballroom dancing classes with his high school sweetheart wife.

JULIE MADDOX

Julie joined us in 2013 after spending more than a year in Europe studying structural engineering and analysis of historic architecture. Now a Professional Engineer, Julie brings with her more than eight years of experience working on a variety of new design and preservation projects throughout the Greater New York City area and abroad.

Originally from the Midwest, she earned her Bachelors in Architecture as well as her Bachelors of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas before coming to New York City to complete the Historic Preservation program at Columbia University.

She is passionately interested in the evaluation and strengthening design of existing buildings and she loves the challenges presented when Julie joined us in 2013 after spending more than a year in Europe studying structural engineering and working with traditional construction, both historic and non-historic (and she doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty either!). She strives for high-quality design and structural evaluation based on the US Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation, and believes this approach to be a solid background for engaging in preservation work.
